LO1: Network Security

Activity:
Research what network is, advantages and disadvantages of network security. Give the importance of network security.

Network:

- network can be public or private.
- a group of two or more devices that can communicate
- network types include LAN, MAN, WAN.

Advantages:

- all of the files are kept safe and protected from unauthorized people.
- it helps the network administrator to keep monitor any kind of attacks.
- it has level of access. For any staff they will be given the specific level of they can access.
- centrally controlled by network administrator
- centralized updates - antivirus software is timely updated.

Disadvantages:

- the set up management of the network security is expensive.
- it requires a lot of time to do the installation
- it needs higher skilled staff to work on it
- one of the staff is careless. Their responsibility is not been taken seriously, they just trust the system to check regularly on the logs.


Importance:

It helps to reduce the risk of sabotage, data loss and theft.

Steps to secure a home network:




  1. Change your router admin username and password
  2. Change the network name
  3. Activate encryption
  4. Double up on firewalls
  5. Turn off guest networks
  6. Update router firmware
